Youth will work with multi media artist Kirthi Nath to develop a series of PUBLIC POSTERS for display at San Francisco’s 16th Street/Mission BART station, along with a collection of SHORT STORIES, that share fresh perspectives from which to connect with and celebrate young people. These new messages will be developed with youth in a process that is experiential and opens up a terrain of rich self-discovery and exciting creative empowerment. GRANT MONEY WILL PAY FOR PRINTING POSTERS. Exhibiting the posters in public allows youth to not only have a voice but to participate in important conversations, in this case, about celebrating personal strengths and standing up to hate and negative stereotyping.

The costs involved in this workshop include a stipend for the instructor, transportation to and from the school and materials. In this case, materials include about 400 pages of paper, pencils, markers, erasers and more. Transportation will have to be via car due to the necessity of carrying enough materials for about 250 kids. In addition, any extranneous funds can be applied to organizational costs like documenting the workshop, hiring assistants for the teaching artist and eventually applying for grants so we can continue to offer in-school workshops like this one. Our Visiting Artists Program offers arts education in communities that need it most, and its continuation depends on the success of these first workshops.

[Ubuntu] "A person is a person through other persons. What dehumanizes you inexorably dehumanizes me." Ubuntu was the core concept behind healing & reconciliation in South Africa when Apartheid ended in 1994. In a world full of chaos and trauma, the spirit of Ubuntu is very much needed in our communities and we think art can serve as a good vehicle to explain this rich, little-understood concept. Ashley Strong, a local artist will design these t-shirts (her past work is above). The plan is to design $30 premium t-shirts. We hope to sell 500 of these and raise $15,000 that will help fund this Trauma Recovery Program for 6 months. $500 from this contest will help cover the initial design and printing costs for the 1st t-shirt.

The monies will afford us the opportunity to make large prints, miscellaneous costs for installation and any costs for transportation. As we are based in San Diego, it would be great to travel to Los Angeles and exhibit our show within an LA gallery. As a small-press publication, with an even smaller budget, we would be honored with the opportunity to provide individuals a unique experience as printed word and image become tangible within a provided space. Our exhibition will be multifaceted. We will observe the intersections between literature and art, oscillating between the transference of dimensions, providing a fully immersive experience. The exhibit will be concise, intentional and hopefully thought provoking; space will be felt.

As writers and artists, we have an obligation to share our gifts and enrich the lives of others. I started this organization a year ago and fund it 100% myself. I would like to expand this into the local VA Hospital for returning soldiers. I want them to have a place where their words matter & are shared. I would use any funds for printing and mailing copies globally. “words are not so important as to be vaulted away, nor are they worthless enough to throw away, so we give them away”

So Say We All is a San Diego nonprofit arts and education collective whose mission is to connect local artists to local audiences in accessible and unexpected locations. Our current venture, “The Far East Project,” seeks to create a people’s history of San Diego’s East County. El Cajon, the heart of East County, has traditionally been neglected by city arts and culture funding and artistic representation. By supporting the storefront portion of “The Far East Project,” an effective and highly visible first step would be taken towards rehabilitating the region’s image and economy. All proceeds would go to the production and labor cost involved with producing and installing 50+ large prints.

All of the money we raise will be going back to VOX, an art studio that teaches free art classes/workshops to kids and low-cost classes to adults. They also operate as a gallery where emerging artists can show their work. They have been around for 6 years and are fearing closure so we are doing this as a way to keep them around so we can keep art in our community. This is also a good way to showcase local artists who might not have an outlet to show their work.

The funding will provide supplies and materials to complete the project. I have been passing by PARC on my way home everyday and I've been wanting to do this project. The Program Coordinator at PARC has informed me that they have a small art space and are in need of a teacher to come in and volunteer with their participants. This will not be a one time art class. I would love to engage in workshops in other mediums like quilting and beading as well. Six years ago I formed a nonprofit in my living room and taught art classes on site at after-school centers in Atlanta with at-risk youth. We have a quilt hanging in the downtown Atlanta library, murals in 6 classrooms, and did classes at Families First Group Homes.

U-DOODLE is structured in a way that allows participants to interact with it on a variety of different levels. Some individuals need to be given the chance to visualize their creativity; which could involve the in-transit method for doodle sharing known as the “Doodle Box”. Others may want to experience the social environment of U-DOODLE; which can be found during public doodle sessions, or through workshops, at local events. Funding will give us the capability to achieve our goals within communities that are in need of higher social support and artistic development. If these areas are given a platform where collaborative creativity is not just welcome, but is encouraged, then people will both feel Good and do Good!

A sidewalk sandwich board sign, designed as another public art piece by HIPP and the I-Square Visions art gallery curators, will be used for gallery shows and special events. We will also purchase a “Gallery Open” sign to convey normal operating hours. Finally, we will create a “walking tour” map of our current (& future) outdoor public art installations, so that community members may easily find and learn about these extraordinary pieces. To see samples of our gallery shows and public art installations, go to: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjzcVN8i To learn more about I-Square, go to: http://i-square.us/

For one week of art camp at Linwood Holton Elementary School in Richmond, VA, Chris Milk will be the artist in residence! Kids will have the chance to work with a local artist directly to create a collaborative piece to hang in their school. Each day, there will be drawing and painting workshops, where participants will create their own paintings and under Chris Milk's guidance, the kids will also contribute ideas and energy to a larger, group piece to be permanently displayed in the art gallery at our school! A project that brings together a public school and a local artist, what is better than that?

ReSource Philadelphia will be based on the theme of media saturation, the idea that we are bombarded daily by images and text. With a little twist. We will be exploring positive messages of hope, peace, love, kindness, and togetherness. In order to make it extra-special, and relevant, we are asking the community to share their visions for a more positive world. The Word Wall will be where all of that comes together, into an installation piece that blends images, text, and a whole lotta love. Funds from this challenge would be used for the following: Materials and artist fees to create the Word Wall. Fees associated with photographing the Word Wall and turning that photograph into a postcard, which will be given to Word Wall contributors

In order to continue this project and bring it to more classes we need resources for instruction, supplies and printing. We work hand on with the children to design their cards by carving designs into potatoes and also using leaves and other natural materials as stamps. Lots of designs are made and then we print the best designs (students vote) to make multiples copies of. They are taught to budget with expenses and to package and market their cards. Please help us continue this exciting program which has community stake holders and volunteers including Safe Harbor After School Program, Lubeznik Center for the Arts, Master Gardeners of LaPorte County, and Purdue Extension Education,

The goal of the project is to fill the world with positive affirmations through beautiful non-commercial design to make people feel good and to help them manifest positive life changes. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with advertisements of the media, sometimes against our will, it is nice to come across a design that isn’t trying to sell us anything. Something that serves as a balm to our spirit and that speaks to us on a non-consumer level. We would use the $500 to cover printing and material costs so that we can print many of the positive affirmation posters and pass it out during events such as the monthly art walk in Wynwood Miami. This way we can get more people in our community involved in the project.

We are located in the East Village Arts District in downtown Long Beach, California and have approximately 14 trees on our block including 3 large palms that will require a lot of "yarn-bombing" to cover. By "yarn-bombing" the trees, it will help further create a warm & fun street art scene in our community. The project will also help bring generations together (especially grandmothers who can teach knitting and create granny squares). The majority of the funds would be used to purchase various types/colors of yarn and string for the volunteers to create their art pieces prior to the day of installation. The balance (approx. $50) would be used to purchase water & snacks for the volunteers on the day of installation.

This event gives community members, especially those who have never attended an arts class or event, an opportunity to see the many ways that art is integrated into our everyday lives - through painting, drawing, music, poetry and dance! This event provides a safe space for them to experience and explore various art forms outside of the perceived pressures of a workshop. Each year, we also host a public art project. This year we will create a horizontal mural on the street adjacent to our center. Once the hub of African-American arts and entertainment in the City, for years now the community has struggled with the ills of poverty and drugs. This event strengthens Jubilee Arts goal to revive the arts on the historic Pennsylvania Avenue.
