We will send a local artist into P.S. 273 in Brooklyn to do a workshop with students who do not have adequate access to art education. The workshop will focus on Surrealist art and comic-book making. These fun activities foster group work and individual creativity, and offer vital art education.
The costs involved in this workshop include a stipend for the instructor, transportation to and from the school and materials. In this case, materials include about 400 pages of paper, pencils, markers, erasers and more. Transportation will have to be via car due to the necessity of carrying enough materials for about 250 kids. In addition, any extranneous funds can be applied to organizational costs like documenting the workshop, hiring assistants for the teaching artist and eventually applying for grants so we can continue to offer in-school workshops like this one. Our Visiting Artists Program offers arts education in communities that need it most, and its continuation depends on the success of these first workshops.
