From the Rust Belt to the Green Belt

The Idea

We propose the idea of housing an experimental cultural and independent media center inside Sweet Water Organics, an indoor urban farm housed in a formerly abandoned industrial building on the south side of Milwaukee. This center would foster new relationships between the arts and sciences.

The Specifics

This space would be a hub space for art, ecology, and community engagement, and it would mirror the goals of Sweet Water Organics in teaching and exposing the ideas of urban sustainability, aquaponics, and the visionary idea of re-imagining Milwaukee as an organic city – transforming the rust belt into a green belt.

A crucial component of our design involves modular studios, movable spaces that could be used by artists and scientists alike. We would use the funds to help design and build a prototypical modular studio.
