Cameras belong in classrooms, not landfills. After recently recycling an old, but working camera, I realized it could have been donated to teach art in an underserved community. That's where Kabul Camera Club comes in -- connecting tech lovers with Afghan school children to create beautiful art.
Kabul Camera Club will set up a website soliciting donations of used, but working cameras to be given to schools in Kabul. We’ll spread the word and solicit camera donations through social media and some strategic PR. But no money will be spent on getting the word out, that’s where we’ll need your help! The first set of cameras will be sent to the Zabuli Girls School in Deh’Subz, Afghanistan. The school has been in operation since 2008, and recently installed a computer lab with two computers and printers. This will be a learning opportunity for both the teachers and students. The initial $500 will pay for shipping fees to transport the cameras from the US to Afghanistan and some ink/paper to print students’ photographs.
