Our youth arts education program in Pasadena, CA is expanding and converting an old garage into an exhibition gallery and artmaking workshop. The garage is accessible via a run-down alley with a cement block wall that our teaching artists will transform into a vibrant ceramic mosaic quilt.
Each artist will choose a rectangle of 1/4-inch cement board to work on. They will compose and then secure their tiles to the cement boards. We will work within a color palette: tans and browns to represent the range of skin colors in our Latino, white and African-American neighborhood, with red, yellow and aqua blue shades as the accents. We will use the money to buy cement boards and adhesive, mosaic tiles and ceramic pieces.
