Produced by More Art, Jenny Marketou's Sunspotting: Doing With Words is a collaborative, interdisciplinary project that investigates themes of identity and free speech through a series of intergenerational workshops and a public performance of "word-acts."
The project is framed around the design relationship between fashion and language through the creation and exchange between participants of artifacts such as flags or patches. Through a workshop series, the artist will work with middle school and college students as well as senior citizens, to create and exchange these artifacts. The project will culminate in a public demonstration held in a highly visible venue (such as a park) during which participants will present their messages to the public by wearing, holding or sharing what they created. The goal of the project is to help people address and overcome the challenge of being heard––and to explore how fashion and language in collectives can be performative tools of public engagement.
