The Idea

My idea is to create a "unity in our community" project day where everyone is invited to contribute knitted, weaved or crocheted pieces of artwork that consists of either yarn or other reusable material (plastic bags, VCR magnetic tape, etc.) to be "yarn-bombed" onto the trees in our neighborhood.

The Specifics

We are located in the East Village Arts District in downtown Long Beach, California and have approximately 14 trees on our block including 3 large palms that will require a lot of “yarn-bombing” to cover. By “yarn-bombing” the trees, it will help further create a warm & fun street art scene in our community. The project will also help bring generations together (especially grandmothers who can teach knitting and create granny squares). The majority of the funds would be used to purchase various types/colors of yarn and string for the volunteers to create their art pieces prior to the day of installation. The balance (approx. $50) would be used to purchase water & snacks for the volunteers on the day of installation.
